Low Oil Pressure?

Hey guys. I recently bought an 88 Camaro 2.8 V6. I've never owned a car with gauges, just idiot lights. I was out driving it today and the oil pressure gauge was dipping down to the "0" redish area when I was in drive and stopped at a traffic light. Once I got on the gas, it shot right back up to a safe level. I'm pretty clueless about oil gauges right now.

Is this normal? If not, what could the problem be? Thanks for any help!

first thing i'd do before i drove it any more would be to screw a mechanical gauge into the block somewhere to see what the oil preasure really is.

Yeah its probably the sending unit or the gauge. More then likely the sending unit.

It sounds more like low oil level then anything else. When stopped the oil is level and to low for the pickup to get when you get on the gas all the oil goes to the back of the pan creating a pool large enough to get a higher pressure. Check the oil before you get a new gauge.
