CFI 305 head combustion chamber size?
CFI 305 head combustion chamber size?
I was wondering what the combustion chamber size is for my CFI 305's heads? I've got a 350 engine used for my Firebird, but the heads are a little... weird and are also center bolt valve covers, where as I have the older style intake (Edelbrock Performer RPM). I am eventually replacing the heads with something kick ****, but for now I need something that works with decent compression.

They are the 416 casting, which is one of the best 305 heads. That's not saying much. They still have the 1.84 intake valves and typical poor 305 ports.
I would not put any 305 heads on any 350 that I expected to beat anything else. Those particular ones can be mad competitive with a mediocre set of 350 heads by putting larger valves in them and doing an extensive port job; but by the time you spend the money to do all that, you could have had the right thing instead.
You can modify the intake bolt holes in the intake to fit the later model heads; and centerbolt valve covers aren't too hard to come up with at the boneyard. I wouldn't even stop for a millisecond to consider putting 305 heads on a 350 just to overcome those 2 tiny obstacles.

One of the reasons I'm even considering it is cuz one of the valves is F'ed up on the 350 heads. I'm looking to get the car running for now, and worry about performance later. Besides, it's still gonna be better than the performance I would've gotten out of the 305 these heads came from.
LOL the 305 heads are free, and they work, so
. I don't have money to get even junkyard heads, now, especially since I have to buy new headers. I have the crappy Edelbrock LG4 headers in the car, now, and the Y-pipe is demolished, so I'm getting the... Oh, what were they, Flowtechs? I forget. I'll look in the Summit Catalog later.
