Pushrod Q

I'm getting a set of L98s & sending them off to get ported & polished & cut for 2.02 valves.... I'm gonna use 1.6r rockers to get a little more lift out of the cam thats in the truck right now... Should I go w/ stock lenght pushrods? Do L98s use guideplates in stock form & since I'm putting them on a non-roller motor do I need guideplates?

Thanks,

if you're still running stock lift cam keep the stock push rods. i believe all L98s were SA rockers so you wouldn't want guide plates with them. if you go with non SA rockers you can/should run guide plates and hardened aftermarket pushrods.

I run a Comp flat tappet cam w/ .454 in/ex. w/ 218deg. duration... I want to use 1.6r Comp Magnum rockers for added lift & duration w/ the L98s so should I run .100 longer than stock pushrods or stock lenght? The rest of my valve train will most likely be Elgin valve springs (Basically Z-28s rated at .490 lift), & retainers, 7deg. locks, umbrella seals, Manley 2.02 & 1.60 Street-Flo valves... Oh yea what kind of valve seats/shims should I use?

Thanks,

you ought to be ok with stock length or +.100, i'd stick with the stock length. you can't change your valve seats, a machine shop could but you don't want or need to. there are shims for the springs, as far as i know there is only one kind and you only use them if you have to to get the correct install height ot to increase spring preasure. if i had to use shim to up the spring preasure i'd just buy new springs.

Ok thanks a lot ede... I'm not really knowledgeable at all about valvetrain geometry so you really helped me out.

Thanks,
