I have a 1986 camaro 305 tpi iroc-z. Ok My problem is every time I turn on my air condition my car starts to over heat. What could be causing this and how do I make it stop.
Thanks

over heating?

Have you had your radiator flushed lately? A clogged radiator will restrict coolant flow and can not dissipate the extra heat the A/C is creating on and in the engine.

also make sure your second radiator fan is coming on. In fact make sure both are coming on when the ac is on.

also check for debris (sp) on and around and in between the radiator...is the AC cooling well? could also be a problem with the AC pump its self..

Weren't they single fans in '86? That's what mine came with.

My '86 IROC came with single-fan, and it was always overheating here in FL, even after a power flush. I have since replaced it with a dual aftermarket fan. There is also a cooling forum on here that you might want to check out.
Is it overheating during city driving, open highway driving, or both? Do you still have you air dam/deflector? Is your fan even coming on when it should?

Define "overheating".

People think for some reason that these cars are supposed to run alot cooler than they actually do. What we would consider high temps on the gauge do not automatically indicate overheating. The factory fan switch does not evn call for cooling (in other words, it does not recognize the engine as fuly warmed up) until 230°. This is of course near the red zone on the gauge. Yet, it is completely normal.

Coolant spewing out the top of the radiator or out of the recovery bottle is almost always the symptom of a bad radiator cap. Again, spewing coolant does not automatically indicate an overheating problem, and in fact often occurs at completely normal operating temperatures.

Some of us might like our cars to run cooler than the factory set them up to run, but that is a different matter altogether from "overheating".

What is the car actually doing, exactly? Be as specific as possible; things like gauge indication, when it runs hotter (idling, highway speeds, etc.).

RB makes a good point. Also check your air condensor in front of the radiator. Make sure the fins are straight and not bent restricting airflow through and to the radiator.

It looks like I missed the question to me way back then, but I have a dual flex lite fan. Mine was spewing from the overflow tank, the guage pegged out, no power from the engine. (that only happened twice)
But I havent had these probs for some time now. And yes, I do have the deflector on there.
