a.i.r.control valve

I was replacing my water pump today so I figured it would be a good time to pull the smog pump out and all related hoses according to the tech article that's posted. Everything is going fine until I pull the a.i.r.control valve off. I dis-connect all the hoses and notice a harness going into it. I pulloff the cover and find two plugs going into what I assume are switches or sensors. Can anyone tell me what these are and what they are for/control? The Chilton manual I have is pretty vague on these two things. If I dis-connect and just leave them tucked under the fuel rail where the wires apprear to go will I run into problems/engine trouble codes? Thanks for any info ahead of time!
