O2 sensor problem

This is for all you EFI guys out there, sorry it's so long. I have edelbrock's EFI, and about a week ago I noticed it was really sucking up gas, I was looking at the control pad and the O2 sensor light was red -lean condition I thought that was wierd so I made the mixture as rich as it would go (to the point where black puffs were coming out the exaust) and guess what still red so I assumed bad O2 sensor so I go to autozone and get a new one, but while trying to install it i figure out it has the wrong plug, so I left the old one disconnected and go back and get the right one but I noticed that the light was flashing green(rich) and red on the way there and back WTF??? anyways I install the good one and same problem the edelbrock manuel says that the light is dark and I should get a error message with the sensor disconnected what the HE!! is going on I'm working 12's so I can't call edelbrock tech support and the car is currently locked out of closed loop. when I get time I plan on borrowing one of the shop's fluke DMM's (hope MSgt XXXXX dosen't catch me) and checking between the pin for the O2 sensor and ground and seeind if I get any reading otherwise I'm stumped any other Ideas???:hail: :hail: :hail:

I'm not familiar with that efi, but if the new o2 sensor didn't fix the problem I'd check the wiring to the sensor, it could have gotten burned or stretched too much.
