Whats a good place to get a chip...(PROM)?
I swapped my 83 Trans Am from an auto to a 5-speed a couple weeks ago. My question is...GM discontinued the PROMs for this particular application, and I need to put a 5-speed PROM in it. Are there and companies out there that offer chips for these early thirdgens? Its a 305 carb car. I want to correct my high idle problem and make it run like an original stick car. Also, I was told that in my case....the computer could go into "limp mode" or "fail safe" mode and performance and mileage will suffer unless I change the chip. But please let me know. THX

For a carb car, it's next to impossible to burn one... they're not the same as FI
You'll have to get a junkyard one, or get one from Hypertech (I think they're the only ones that still make one for that setup though I could be wrong)
