Most of the aftermarket timing tabs I've seen are similar to the factory tab on the left side of the engine.

Get some degreed balancer tape and make your own timing reference marker.

Are you sure?

I just did a 305 to 350HO swap in my '89 Bird and used an adjustible Mr. Gasket pointer for an 8" balancer. I can still see to adjust timing, I just have to look in at a different angle. I couldn't find ANYONE who made a cover with a integral central timing tab.

No problem. I stand over the left fender and look just over the power steering pump and under the water pump. I have a good view of the timing tab and about 1/4 of the balancer.
