Carbon Buildup

Ok, a while back, I replaced the Valve Cover Gaskets due to a small leak. I noticed that there was a carbon buildup.

I have been using 92 octane Texaco gas, so it's not a fuel grade problem.

Can anyone help me out?

Your right, definatly not a fuel problem. Oil buildup usually comes from not changing the oil enough. All engine as they age will experiance some buildup, but if the entire head, rockers, valve cover has a thick layer of buildup then that is negligance. If you think it is real bad, change your oil often for a few times, like at 1500 miles, it will help clean up your engine.

Thanks for the replies.

I am going to do both. My dad told me he changed the oil before he gave it to me....come to find out he didn't.
Miscommunication, I hate it.

you may want to consider changing to synthetic....it will help to clean up the system.

don't really know if it works or not but I know a lot of rotory guys let the inside of the motor sit in the stuff overnight to help get rid of carbon

and that is using either ATF or marval mystery oil

I know when for sheits and giggs I put the MMO in my oil on time on a fresh oil change the oil turned black really quick. not sure if the stuff was just making my oil change colors though or if it was getting rid of all the crud that was in my oiling system

also just as a side night with the 92 octane

try switching to a lower grade gas
you might get better milage and power if you do
the higher octane stuff burns slower and so if still might be burning outside the exhuast port just wasting that energy where a low octane fuel would better be able to use up more of it energy pushing the piston down
though if you have higher compression or adv your timing you might need the high octane stuff then
just saying worth a shot
