3rd or 4th Gen

Hey Guys,

I am in the market for a new car and was wondering if any of you could provide me with some information on some various models I have been considering. I would like to know 1/4 and 0-60 times for them and any advantages or disadvatages pertaining to each model, thanks for your help guys, here are the models:

1991 Chevrolet Camaro 350 auto
1988 Chevrolet IROC 305 5 Speed
1990 Pontiac Trans Am 350 5 speed
1991 Pontaic Firebird V6
1994 Chevrolet Camaro V6 Auto
1993 Chevrolet Camaro V6 5 speed
1995 Pontiac Firebird V6 5 Speed

I am leaning towards the 90 Trans Am 350 with the 5 speed, I am positive it would be the fasted car of them, but I looked up the HP numbers on the newer V6's and they are pretty close to the older models. Thanks Again guys.

I should have been a little clearer, basically I want the fastest car out of all of those, if you lined them up, what one would win 0-60 and what one would win in the 1/4.

Well, I'll throw in my 2 cents. Personally I'd keep away from the V6s cause you could make more power with the V8s. Although, the 3800s in the newer camaros have a nice powerband. Between the V8s I'd say the 350 if you don't mind the auto ( the 350 never came with a manual from the factory).
But, stock the 91 350 should be faster because it's got Speed Density and Dual cats which was worth about 15 hp compared to the older 350s. I'm not sure how the 350 with the 5 speed would fair, but I'd imagine it would be close to the 350 auto if not better. I'm sure other folks opinions will differ but that's mine.

also the 95 Firebird with the 5 speed is a 3800, do you think that it would beat a 350 auto?

No, I don't think that would happen stock to stock. Though I know they make a supercharger for the 3800.

I'd say go for the 91 350 Auto. 3.73's and shift kit, torque converter.

I'd think the 91 Camaro 350 auto would be the quickest all things being equal.

Go with the 91 350 man. If you dont you will yourself. Nothing IMO compares to a well tuned 350. Plus, there is just so much more you can do to a 350. If you are really concerned with quickness, go with the 91. My 2cents!

Well, nothing in that list compares with a well-tuned 350...I wouldn't mind a nice 502 BB, or 3.8L TurboBuick V6 (like the GNs & TTAs)

( the 350 never came with a manual from the factory).
well, that's not entirely true there were some special editions that got a 350/manual combo (only the firehawk comes to mind)...if you consider those from the factory, but I doubt that you'll find one of those for sale anyways.

I would say to go look at them first...some of them could be ragged out or about to fall apart, but here's my list (from fastest to slowest):

1991 Chevrolet Camaro 350 auto
1988 Chevrolet IROC 305 5 Speed
1995 Pontiac Firebird V6 5 Speed

if your looking for the fastest cars then stay away from the V6s from before 95...

I would go with the 91 350 TPI, the parts available for these cars (and the 350) are almost endless and more are coming out all the time. A freind with basicly the same car but a Formula ran 14.3s stock , after he added a cat-back, removed the cats and added a free ram air kit w/ K&N he ran in the high 13s.

I guess I'll differ a little and say if the T/A REALLY HAS a 350 and is in decent shape, get that. If it was a 350 car and someone did a trans conversion, and did it right, it would be a nice package. It would make a T56 swap a little easier in the future too. If the 350 was swapped in, you'll be able to tell from the numbers stamped on the deck in front of the passenger side head. I wouldn't bother with a 6 cylinder 4th gen. They're nice, but if you shop around, you can find LT1's pretty cheap.

also that T/A was originally a 305 auto, and he put a 350 and 5 speed in it, a little to much modding for my likes when it wasnt done by a professional.
