Finally finished the cam swap. Also added the Weiand Stealth intake, Summit roller rockers and Pete Jackson Gear drive. I need to buy a shorter KN filter now my 4" don't fit. And I need to get new wires so I can't really drive it right now. But it sounds awesome, I'll get a soundclip in a few days. Here are some pics.

Some Junk that was cluttering things.

Definately get some sound files from in front and behind your car. I'd really like to hear the gear drive and the lope of a cam through hooker aero-chambers (something I've yet to experience ...but soon! few more weeks)

That's one of those engine bays that makes it sad to have a hood

i noticed in your pile of EXTRA things, you had the charcoal canister, what did you do with the vent line from the fuel tank?

i also notice that there are no wires at all coming from the passenger side fender, are they all completely unnessecary?

i want to do some of this clean up on my car, but i can't tell much from wiring diagrams(i hate those things), and people give me conflicting stories,

i also noticed that you apparently just cut most of the ac box off, will the heater still function properly, or are you going to construct some sort of duct ?

To answer your questions.
1. The wires from the pass fender are routed under the heater box now.

2. the charcoal canister line is plugged off now

3. the heater box, will have a custom made air duct made from sheet metal so the heat still works. Do a search on this board for custom made box, I posted pics of it, but it's not complete.

So you don't even need the charcoal canister? it's not dangerous not having it or nething? hrm....

also thought of something, you need to clean your engine bay with some simple green or something... it's not looking right with a nice shiney engine and dirty engine bay... although it does make the engine look like a diamond in the ruff.

I thought Vader said we did. But my brother took it out neways. Some lines weren't even hooked up.
I plan on taping the engine off sometime and sprayin the bay a flat black.

Hey mark this is a totally off the wall question, but I notice you're running a 600 edlebrock on that thign. I've got a similar 350 in my GF's camaro with that carb........having a hard time getting it jetted right. Is yours jetted stock or what? How's it run? Engine looks great. And where did you get that heater box thing?

I'm using the factory jets, we'll see how it goes.

The heater box thing, my brother made out of sheet metal.

nice job.

Im planning on getting rid of my TPI, and going carb. What filter are you going to run. I am worried about clearance with the hood.

I may have to get a cowl hood to run the intake I want.

Lookin GOOD!!!!!

I hate Edelbrock carbs though. I had one on my 72 Charger with a 360, and the thing never ran worth a sh*t till I got a Holley.

It was a more expensive carb back then too.

Not say'in they totally suck, but I've never had luck with them.

Again - everything else:

Damn looks good. I bet the car runs ALOT better without that tiny cam it had on it. What intake was on it? Id say you should have some good times if your tranny is up to it (isnt it slipping or something)?

Looks great Mark...one of those lines to your cannister is your fuel tank vent line, you need to keep it open.

I had the stock LG4 aluminum intake on it. Yes, my tranny is slipping still I plan by winter to have that fixed.

Riley??? Which line do I need to keep open? If I take a pic could you circle the line for me?

Mark,
Engine looks really nice, but when you took off the charcoal canister there is a hard line from the gas tank that went to the canister, this needs to open not blocked.

On your car you had the two fuel lines on the passenger side frame rail to connect to the pump, one feed and one return for the factory pump, now look on the driver side frame rail. There is a metal line that should run right next to the strut tower/fenderwell,and about 4 inches from the end of that hard line it kicks up into the air in the direction of the fender...that is your fuel vent line that went to your charcoal canister..this line must stay open to the atmosphere to allow your tank to vent.On my Z I removed that entire hard line (to clean things up further) all the way back to the sending unit hard line back at the tank, where all the lines splice to be able to remove the tank.It has been that way for 6 years now with no problems.

so that vent line can be completely removed from the engine bay area?, and just leave it open back near the tank?, do i need to put any kind of a vent cap or something on it to keep the crud out of it?

Yeah..remove it totally, unless you plan to put emissions back in one day..imagine that lol.I left mine open for the last 6 years and no crud or crap has gotten into it yet.

I still have the Fuel Injection on my car, but have removed my emissions. Can i pull out my canister? Some say yes, others say no. Which is it? Will it kill my mileage or make the car run different?

Looks good Mark. Can't wait to see it next weekend. Hope the weather is good though

when l swapped the 350 into my camaro l pulled the canister and l took a vacuum T cap and slipped it over the hard line, after running it, l removed the cap and it took in a lot of vacuum. l just left the line wide open, no problems with it yet.

excellent work mark.

Don't just let it vent into the engine bay or above the tank. Do it the right way. Cap off the line in the engine bay and buy a pressure relieving gas cap - like the factory used to do.

They dont make them for our cars.....Vented caps......the fuel system needs pressure ....keep the vent line open.. about the worse thing that will happen is, you may get a fuel odor(sp) once in awhile. I left mine open, with a Malory 3 port. No problems to date.

What are the consequences to leaving the line plugged? I have had mine plugged for the last two months. The gas tank hisses big time when I fill up.... but does it matter? LS1s hiss like a ****!

You will be putting alot of strain on the fuel pump..it has to work extra hard to pump the fuel out of the tank with no vent...and you DONT want to be changing the FP any time soon.....I suggest letting it vent.

By plugging the vent line, you are not allowing air to displace the fuel being pumped out of the tank, creating a vacuum. The fuel pump will have to work harder to pump the fuel since there is nothing to displace it with. Get a 1 Liter coke bottle, punch a hole in the cap, and in the bottom of it. Fill it with water (while holding your finger over the bottom hole), put the cap on, and turn the bottle over. Notice very little, if any, water comes out. Take your finger off the hole (aka. the vent tube on your fuel system), and wha-la, you got flow. You might want to find another way to mount the charcoal canister (in the rear of the car maybe?), or just leave the vent line open as Riley's35089rs+ suggeted.

Why did you get rid of the vacuum reservoir tank? It sits out of sight and serves a purpose.

Is that what that was? Hmm, my brother was just rippin stuff out. I dared not touch anything, cause my luck, I'd pull something out and the car wouldn't start.

You might be about to swap or buy a hood off of ebay for what that TPI is worth. I know someone selling one a little more then a G. Such a rip though..
