How much difference will these plugs make parts store gave me r44 instead of r45 ac's

Went to the parts store the other day and got a set of plugs for my 84 camaro (engine specs in sig) THe dumbass at the counter gave me the r44 ac's instead of the r45's. I didn't even notice until I got them in. My car seem like the engine temp was a little hotter, but I really havn't got to take it out to compare the running. Besides, the ones I pulled out were the accel header plugs, which are kinda 30 dollar pieces of ****. So I can't really compare it to another set of the ac delco. How much of a difference will this make, I am going to go tomorrow and tell them they f*cked up and I want them to switch them. Just wanted to get your guys opinions. Thanks Jason

Well.... I think you should call a lawyer!!!

Relax ; R44's are one little step cooler than stock R45's

You'll never know the difference.
If you're doing a lot of "performace driving" it is actually a step in the right direction.
Using a plug that is a little cooler will help avoid detonation at WOT.

They'll probably be better for you. The R45 plugs are very hot plugs. They have nothing to do with the engine temperature.

Go to the Calgary Drag Racing web site (link below). Click on Tech Tips then on Spark Plugs for an understanding on how a plug and the heat ranch works.

The AC Delco site has an explanation on their numbering system and what all those numbers mean.

I run R43TS plugs in my race car.

.050" might be a little high. Finding the proper plug gap is trial and error. You need to increase the gap .002" at a time until HP starts to drop off. If using any kind of power adder you need to reduce the gap.

Typical gap is only .035". I run mine at .045"

The best way to find the proper gap for your engine combination would be with a scope. That way you could watch the spark energy and compare it across the cylinders.

Thanks 87 roc, I think I am going to pull mine and try them at .45, because it just seems like somethin is not quite right. Just kinda feels odd, you know what I mean. I just hate pulling them out, because with my headers they are such a pain in the @ss to change. Although I have gotten quicker every time, and my "special tool" I made makes it a h ell of alot easier. Everybody needs there "special tool" right! SOunds like a good project for tomorrow. Just one quick question though, what is the easiest way to tell if you are detonating??? Thanks agian
