How to filter engine noise in my CB?

I put a CB in last week and it works great with the car off but when running I get a lot of interference. I was going to put a capacitor on the power wires but then I remembered that my friend's CB was picking up my engine noise too when he was parked next to me so the noise is being radiated and isn't coming through the power wires, so the caps won't help. I think my MSD box is the cause, is there a way to filter it? Can I wrap it in foil? lol

I really doubt it. Our Van (97 GMC Safari) is the same way... Just crank the squelch up

Sometimes if you try a different connection, Maybe a switched scource, you will have less background noise....connections straight to the bat. seem to cause more problems. My Dad is a trucker and has alot of experience with this, I'll ask him what he does and get back to ya. Also make sure you have Resistor plugs.(most likely you do) They will have a R in the #.

I have my CB velcro'd to the carpet of the door panel, by my left knee... right above my stereo's power wire. Talk about interference! Can't think of a better spot for the CB, though. You might also have a bad (leaking) spark plug wire, or a bad connection at the cap or spark plugs on one wire.

here's what i've gathered: my interference noise cuts out when the antenna is disconnected and the noise is a rapid popping not a whine so that means i'm getting interference from my ignition system. solutions i've found for this but havent tried yet: ground straps from the hood and engine to firewall, and run your wires straight to the battery and have them twisted in a braid. radioshack also makes a filter kit that connects to the power wire to the coil

Where do you have the antenna located? It almost sounds like a bad ground problem.
If the antenna is located in the front of the car, try relocating to the back of the car.
When I had my CB in my 84Z, I just had a magnetic mount on the back hatch.
It had a noise limiter feature, flip that switch and never had a problem.
Another thing I did is when I powered it, all I did was find a spot in the fuse panel that had power, but no fuse. Put a blade type connector on the wire and plug it right into the fuse box.
Then just connect the black wire to a bolt or something on the inside of the car under the dash.
I have done this on several different vehicles and never had a problem with noise.
I hope this helps.

Buy the Radio Shack in line filter for your power source, it worked for me with my radio reception.
