weird starting problem...

when i get in my car in the mornings and go to start my car, i always turn the key to the on position and listen for the fuel pump. well, lately i have been doing my usual routine and start cranking my car(it would normally fire right up) but now it cranks and cranks and cranks. almost like im not getting any fuel. if i was getting fuel i would smell it right? i dont have any idea why this started. i recently put my stealth ram on but the problem didnt occur until about a month after the install, so i dont think that is the problem. anyone have any ideas on a sensor or something that might be going bad? or maybe the coil? i dont know, i just need ideas. i wish whatever was doing this would just break so i can find it

It's not a HO, which is the L69 carbed motor, it's a TPI... so the causes and cures are quite different from the HO.

Probably your 9th injector is not working correctly; wire disconnected, injector failed, or the like. I'd look around in that area.

well the ninth injector has been off for quite some time. i havent had that on the car for over a year, even tho it is supposed to have it. And the stealth ram doesnt allow for the ninth injector. i think the timing might be a good bet, because i have no idea where my timing is at right now.

thanks for the ideas, keep em coming

well i know i was having problems with my number 5 spark plug wire for some reason so i went out to check it and it slipped off of the plug again and melted to the header, so i put another spare on it for the time being. while i was out there i noticed that the number 7 wire had also started to come off. do you think that this could have made my starting hard in the morning but fires right up for the rest of the day until the next morning? someone please help, i would like to fix this before tomorrow morning.
thanks

i had that problem once

well i think your ignition module is going bad, they act up when it is real cold but go bad when it gets hot, check the timing and the TPS voltage also.

wheres the 9th injector? i have a 86 iroc 5.0 tpi and it has a hard time starting in the morning or the first time i start it up after it has been sitting over night..i have to give it some gas when i start which is wierd to me b/c i thought i wouldn't have to do that with a fuel injected car (im used to the old schools), but i think something is wrong with it but don't know what. also after i get it started i hear a kinda loud noise coming from under the hood and then the car runs cool and starts whenever until i let it sit over night again...anyone know what this could be?

i borrowed a tester for the cold start injector you can get one at pep boys or from snap on. it is located on the drivers side on the inside of the fuel rail. plug in the tester and look for a pulse in the light if no pulse is there below the alt. is a cold start injector switch. thats what was wrong with mine... you and i had the same problem. i went as far as checking the fuel pump and everything. the switch id available from the dealer for 56.00 and the injector is 90.00 hope that helps

I had my CSI disconnected for over a year and never had a problem that plugging it in fixed. Mine is plugged in now, but it's not used in my prom. I was thinking you had an injector leaking before you said how you fixed it. That's a pretty probable thing if you've got a good amount of miles on the car, you should have seen how my injectors leaked after 120k.

If you suspect the CSI, there is a coolant sensor that may need replacing in the front of the intake. It's got a square shaped connector and is used to measure coolant temperature and, under a certain temp(over a certain resistance), activate the ninth injector during startup.
