I have a 350 4-bolt that had a main cap relpaced. I wasnt bad, just lost. Now, can I get just that main bored, or should I have the whole thing done, and why. Thanks

you don't need it bored, and you don't want it bored because it'll cause you problems. what you want is aligned honed, big differance. it'd be pointless to do one, there wouldn't be any aligning to it if you only did one. the idea is to make all the holes on the same CL. the tool runs from end to end so only one couldn't be done anyway. if you have a precision, and i'll say it again PRECISSION straight edge you can check it yourself and it may not need anything done to it. .001 to .0015 is pretty much accteptabe.

Well you can feel the lip, so something needs to be done. I was told by a machine shop (a pretty crappy one though) that it should be align bored. I didn't think that aligned honing it would fix that. Will it?

maybe you do need it bored, but i still doubt itand people tend to use bored and honed interchangebly. take it to a shop and see, the shop you'd want to be doing the work for you.

I talked to a shop, and he said he has to look at it. The cap I have seems to be shifted to one side about a 1/16 of an inch. He said first they'll index it, the bore it. What is indexing? He also said that it would be returned to oe specs. How?
