Can anyone identify this problem? Lurch while shifting...

Ok, I have a 1987 Z28, 305 TPI 700R4 Posi w/2.73. When I put it into gear every morning, Park to Reverse, it's like there's this big lurch and it's like the car is getting down off a stool or something... it's a lurch, but it seems like it's also going down too. I really don't have any idea what it is, best I can figure is it's the tranny or engine shifting position when I switch gears? Any ideas what this may be, am I alone with this problem? I posted in General Engine cause I think it might be the engine settling or something.... If this belongs in the Tranny board, by all means, move it, I have no problem with it

I think it could be the rear brake problem that our cars have. I have the same problem. I'll install the brake kit sometime this week( didn't get to it today) and let ya know if that fixes it.

My car idles normal, when in a drive gear it's 750. In park it's just a bit higher. Come to think of it, I thought it seemed like the shifts were firm. Maybe the firmness is the tranny jumping? Could my tranny mount be bad? I should prolly take a look at it.... I'd think it'd be way more noticeable then what it feels like now though if I had a bad mount...

I too get a real firm, and kind frightening lurch when going from park to reverse in the mornings. This is probably more due to the fact that my rear brakes really need to have the shoes replaced though. Then again on a cool morning 1st-2nd shift (with a tire thats a bit low) will actually chirp with a WOT shift. Kind of a nice way to tell me to air of the tire.

lol yea that happens to me too. it just sucks when i goes it in the rain as you turn. you wonder why your sliding at 10 mph.

as far as it all goes i really never figured out why it did it. it is just more controlled now. and i know it aint my brakes because i just had 4 new rotors and sets of pads put in.

Same here, in the morning I can get 2nd gear scratch at WOT, and alot of times I can do it while not at WOT also. My tires are fully aired, but they're gettin pretty thing. When I put on the 16x8 IROC-Z wheels wrapped in brand new Eagle GSC's I'm thinking it'll go away...

The thing is Hg i have the 16x8 irocs on my LO3 RS and it still scratches in the cool if a tire is just a few (5 pounds or less) pounds underinflated. I really need some gears though, these 2.73's are pissing me off. Oh well, need money first.
