which one... zz4 or LT4 hot cam
which one... zz4 or LT4 hot cam
ok, I have a 383 currently with lightly ported iron heads, ported base and stock tubes and upper manifold.... I have a 2200 stall converter and the 3.23 rear end.... over the winter is when I am going to be doing the cam swap along with stage 4 iron heads with 2.02/1.6 valves and an LT1 intake which I have all modified already. Now I just need the cam!... I am stuck between the zz4 cam (208/221, .474/.510) or the lt4 hot cam (218/228, .492/.492)...... what do U guys think will be best for the 383.... I think if I get the zz4 cam I will put 1.6 rockers on the intake and 1.5 rockers on the exhaust to even out the lift numbers slightly. The guy who built the motor for me told me to try and keep the duration around 218 and run decent, but not extreme lift. Any help would be great. thanks

i am using a hot cam in my 350, according to desktop dyno i make about 5-10 more hp with it than zz4, probably due to the longer duration and higher intake lift. it is very streetable. if you go with the zz4 i wouldn't use different rockers because your exhaust valve is smaller so it needs to open farther than the intake so back pressure is lower. if you use 1.6 rockers with the zz4 make sure to check piston-valve clearance, might even consider checking it with 1.5 rockers. i am using 1.5 rockers and have .25in of clearance
edit: make sure your springs are strong enough and that you have proper valve guide-retainer clearance. also check your valvetrain geometry to make sure your rockers wont slide off the valve stem

I like the HOTcam better... A 383 will be plenty streetable with it (so would a 350 but still...).
