Stranded :(
WTF happened? I got in my car this morning, and as usuall, let it warm up b/f takeoff. As I pulled onto the road, I got a cell call, so I pulled over to take it, leaving the car running. When I pulled back onto the road, I took off normal. As I went into third, I kinda punched it a little, and ran thru third to about 4500 rpm, shifting into fourth. When I let off it, the car backfired once, then the gas pedal went dead. The car was still running (burning the gas already in the motor, I assume), but even if I pressed the gas to the floor, it did nothing. In just a couple of secconds, it died, so I pulled it over. I tried ana tried to get it to fire, but no luck. Ohyeah, the ses light came on after it backfired. I jumped the terminals to check the codes, but it read a 12 every time. Is it the TPS, or what? Need help quick!!!!!
Thanks,
Kelly

my first thought was to check if the distributor is loose, if it became too retarded it'll backfire. can you hear the fuel pump prime when you turn the key? maybe the pump died
Thanks
Thanks for the help U.T. I went to the car yesterday morning, pulled the dist., and found only half the dist gear teeth left on it. It did not have the required bronze gear( or so I was told), and my cam had eaten it up. The amazing thing is that my cam gear was perfect. Everyone I talked to at the local speed shops said I might as well get ready to pull it again, but they were wrong! So I just bought a comp cam bronze gearand installed it. Today I have to set the timing and change the oil.
