3500 rpm at 40 mph in 4th gear?

i think my tach is grossly mistaken. when i cruise at 40 mph in 4th gear (t5, 3.23) my tach reads 3500 rpm. i dont think this is right. the tires are P255 50 r16. can anyone run this through a calculator and see how far off my tach is? thanks guys.

well my tach has some ailment too

but with 3.23s and about a 25" tire, each 1000rpm is about 23mph. So 40 would be about 1700.

mine goes to the peg (7000+ when the motor is only about 5500).
