Digital Dash reads "R Door" open, but it isnt??
Hey guys I posted this on the electrical board with not much help,, any thoughts:
what sensor blew and WHERE IS IT LOCATED?
This is on the digital systems check part of the dash.... instead of reading PONTIAC, it says "R Door", , meaning my right, passenger door is open, which it isnt..
ita an 88 GTA
thanks
PS. the dome light goes off when i shut the door. Does that little button that gets pushed in when the door closes only effect the dome light?? or does it also connect to the digital dash somehow? I dont see any other buttons/sensor looking things in the door area.

I have no idea. I discovered the other day that it's not at all related to the pin that controls the dome light. It's gotta be at the latch in the B pillar as far as I can figure.
Are you sure it's that and not the module in the dash tho? Mine has been screaming "R LAMP" at me for a year, and the last few days it would beep every time I put the brakes on. I got fed up with it and punched it multiple times yesterday. It worked great today on the way to work.

ok, now to go along with the "R DOOR" problem, my digital odometer is acting up and once and a while isnt showing the tenth of a mile (.1)... or the tenth number isnt fully seen.
how hard is it to get to the module in the dash?
you think its that??

If you can hold off until winter ship it off to SPECMO and have them rebuild your dash. If you can't wait until winter be prepared for a 1-2 week downtime on your GTA. If you need any of the contact info, PM me and I'll get ya the info. To have them rebuild my dash it was $270 + s/h.
I'm glad I had mine redone. All of the LCD pinouts work great, all numbers are clear and best of all, I don't blow the cluster fuse because of the short in the odometer module.

I checked out my 88 factory service manual for you on this one. For the driver's information center to display a "right door open" display, the door ajar switch must be closed, thereby completeing a circuit to ground. This means when the door is open, the switch is CLOSED. Now, I don't know if this is the same switch that turns on you dome lights. I don't think so, because the dome light door switch shows a single white wire. You will be looking for a door switch that has 2 wires, a black/ lt green and a black. The black/light green goes to the information center, the black wire goes to ground. Find the switch & dis-connect it. The switch might be stuck closed. Check the switch with you ohm meter. If the switch is ok, the black/light geen wire must be shorted to ground.
PS: The manual says the door ajar switch is located "on each center lock piller", whatever that means.
