Battery Size
Battery Size
What size batteries (CCA) are you guys using on your 350's? I have an 83 Z28 that I did a 305 - 350 swap and I am suspecting that my 630 CCA battery is giving me starting issues, slow cranking ect., before I start testing all of the obvious, I would like to know if my battery is too small, after all it is an easy fix!

It's the starter. Don't waste your money on batteries, go straight to the problem.
Get a "mini-starter", it makes an incredible difference. I went through the same thing with a 400 in my car. I got the CVR unit, it spins the motor about 3 times faster than the stock one ever did.

I got it at my local shop when i lived in Memphis... Can't recall the number, it's the CVR that has the 4 bolts, for both ring gear sizes... i had it on my 400 first, I had drilled the 400 block of course since the 153-tooth starter won't bolt to the pattern that comes on those; with that motor, the best the stock starter could do with any battery was just barely budge it, if it didn't start within about 5 seconds of the time i hit the key, the battery was toast; with this starter, it's like it has about 4 times the power and draws about 1/4 the power off the battery.
Thanks again, you were right, it was the starter, I looked for what you recommended locally and came up short, so I tried a heavy duty mini-type starter from Napa and it spins it over like a dream. Thanks again
