quick quick quick wiring help

where does the thick black wire go from the positive battery post to the where??? its black and its only a couple feet long and it has a connection on the end where you bolt it down to something(looks kinda like a ground)

forget the color stuff in case someone mixed them. the - side of the battery is a ground and is usually bolted to the chassis ,but the engine would work. the + side goes to the starter

There's 2 battery cables. One (usually red) goes from the positive terminal of the battery to the big post on the starter. That one is fairly long, more like about 3 to 4 feet.

The short one is about 18 or 20 inches long and goes from the negative battery post to anywhere on the engine block, or something bolted solidly to the block.
