Good Chev truck bbs OR the ?? inside...
Does anyone know of a good later model chevy truck bbs? I have a '96 1500, 4x4, extended cab, short bed for towing my boat and hauling my snowmobile. I have a question about it.
The 10 bolt rear makes gear whine...badly. I could rebuild it, but I would rather just find one in a junk yard out of a '99 or newer with the rear disc brakes and upgrade my braking system while eliminating the gear noise. Someone told me that the older ('96) factory 16" aluminum wheels will not fit over the newer disc brake package. I find this hard to believe, since they both used 16" aluminum wheels. I mean, I can't believe the REAR discs on a '99^ are bigger over all than the FRONT discs on my '96. Can anyone shed some light on this?
Keep in mind I'm talking all 1/2 ton parts here. I want a '99 or newer, 1500 rear for my '96 1500. Thanks.

There is a board just for late model trucks. Someone there will have the answer if not here.

They probably wont fit. The 96's have that stupid outset rim. Its frustrating because no one knows why GM did it that way "no real reason except styling" and it make it very difficult to find reasobable replacment rims that dont stick out 6in's. From backing plate to backing plate the measuremnts are the same 57 inches, but from wheel stud to stud there about a 6in difference.

SSC, I know the wheel offset and bolt pattern are the same. I know this because I have already seen a bunch of '88 - '99 style trucks runing around with '00^ take-off wheels on them.
What I'm wondering about is the I.D. of the '96 wheel vs. the '00^ wheel.
Boogie, ede, thanks for the links! I'll try there.
