Ported TF head potential

I am gonna bid on these babys. But my friend (mustang guy) told me that I may have to change my pistons to accomodate the new size in combustion chambers. Will these work?

And should I ditch the street dominator intake and get the weiland stealth intake I want?

I plan on running a .507/.510 lift cam at 284 deg duration with these heads too.

Also, is it just me or does this set not have guideplates?

Those heads are great. When they're ported... they're even better If you look closely the valves are not spaced like you would see on a normal chevy heads. The intake valves are "rotated". And yes, they do have guide plates if you look closely. For that matter you will also need special pushrods, with lenghts designed for these heads. Personally I'd go with a performer rpm intake. Those heads will need it to make good power. Also think about a different cam. Something in the 220/230 range at .050

p.s. Your mustang friend is an "ignoramus" list most Ford owners. Of course the heads will "work". And no you won't have to change your pistons! The only adverse affect is you'll gain a little compression. Your heads are 64cc right now. 2 cc is not enough to warrant a piston change.

Thanks

I am looking at the Crane cams heat treated pushrods. i'll call trick flow for the proper ones (+.100 or so).

Here is the package I am looking at:

Those heads and intake (or a weiland stealth...it beat the RPM in a poll). I have a performer now, but I think i need more.

PJ gear drive, Comp Pro Magnum roller rockers (1.5 ratio), and the pushrods listed above.

About a Cam. I was thinking Comp XE 284 since the stealth intake can go to 6800 RPMs and that cam is rated at 6500 RPMs. What is another good cam to get me into the low 12s with these heads.

A poll doesn't mean anything. I was running a performer RPM intake on my car and was still running 11s.

The cam you picked is a good choice. I would go with a 294 if this was my engine. BUT !! From what I know, because of the rotate valve angle you can only run up to .500 lift cams, even if you change the springs. Might want to call trick flow and ask them before you bid on these heads. They should be able to tell you exactly what kind of pushrods you need. I dont believe they're just longer. I think the intake or exhaust side is longer or shorter then the other side. It's a special pushrod package.

If they only take up to .500 lift, then try something like a 268 cam.

Thanks again

I will call trick flow about the lift. I want a really high lift because my friend (the mustang guy) has a .550 lift cam made by a Drag race engine builder (his pop is a drag racer). He has an 11 sec 5.0 (slicks). I figure that the 283 would be good since this is my daily driver, I just want a nasty daily driver.
I can still get away with a 274 cam if these heads only go to .500 in lift.

Check this out on the hyd flat tappet cams:
http://www.compcams.com/catalog/056_057.html

If i put roller rockers with a 1.6 ratio in, the tech guy at jegs told me I can get more lift. He said 1.5 is relatively stock.

Oh, I am also getting 4.10s for the rear. I just hope the T-5 doesn't blow on me...it's the stock one (non WC)

Hmmmm........Well maybe that ford guy does have a point though.....
With the trick flow twisted wedge heads the valves are rotated...so check your valve to piston clearance carefully!!!! Trick flow actually makes pistons just for the twisted wedge heads that have the valve pockets rotated also.....
