few problems with new car
hey everyone, just bought a 1984 Recaro T/A, and i really like the car, but i have a few problems with it. First of all, i know the car is a pig on gas (L69) but im sure this has to be wrong. I filled the car up to the top on sunday afternoon with premium, and 75 KMs(50 miles) later, the guage shows barely above empty, so i dont know if that would be a fuel guage problem, because im pretty sure the car isnt eating gas that fast, im not driving it hard, and shifting at 2500rpm, so? any ideas?. Another thing is, the alternator was over-charging badly, so i went to my parts car and took off the alternator trying to change them, but the casing on the new one was slightly big(it came from and LG4)so i had to keep the faulty one on the car, so i loosened the belt a bit hoping to reduce the charging, and then when i started it up again, it seemed to be allright, the voltage meter red right in the middle of the guage. So after driving for about 20 KMs the battery suddenly started to die, and now the car wont turn over, so im gonna have to put a new battery in tommorow morning. but would this likyl be caused by the over-charging before, or could the battery have still been overcharging after i loosened the belt and just not showing on the guage?? any help would be great, thanks
have you looked for fuel leaks? might be a good idea, it shouldn't use anything close to what you said for 50 miles driving. you have a amp or anything putting extra load on the charging system? the alternator is full fielding and if it hasn't it will burn up. if there isn't any reason for the extra draw you still need a new alternator
hey, well today it ran out of gas from the full tank i put in on sunday. final mileage was 160kms, or about 105miles, so yah, i think ill take your advice and look for some leaks, but any idea where to start? and yah, im putting a new alt in on thursday, and i guess a new battery too

Look at the rubber lines that go from the gas tank to the car body, in front of the rear end. Check around the fuel pump.
The L69 is not necessarily a gas drinker; mine used to regularly get 24 mpg on the road when it was stock, fully loaded with a whole family and luggage, with the A/C on.

hey, well i checked for leaks and found none, so i talked to a friend of mine at work last night, and he said that possibly the fuel filter could be in backwards. Could that possibly take a big chunk out of my fuel economy? Also im having a problem with fuel boiling, does anyone know of any easy cheap way to solve this problem? thanks alot:lala:
