Heat shield for starter

1990 RS 305 Camaro...

Has anyone used the blanket type heat shield on your car? How was the fit? Any problems with it? Did it solve the heat soak problem?

Would a mini starter fix the problem of heat soak better than putting a blanket on the full size starter?

Any other suggestions are welcome.

Thanks guys!

The stock starter is a POS. You wouldn't believe how bad it actually is until you try a mini.

I was out in Burbank and Hollywood the other day... flew into and out of Burbank. I used to live in north SD county around Carlsbad, it was good to be back.

I hope you enjoyed your stay. I'm about 3 minutes from the Burbank airport...

So a mini starter sounds like the way to go. I will be looking into that. Thanks for the info.

It was just work... I'm doing a project with a radio station, to build studios to move them from Sunset Blvd. to a bldg in Burbank. I was there the night of the Hollywood Bowl, what a hassle the traffic was that night. Other than that, it was great.

I have a CVR mini-starter that I got for my 400 when it was in my 83; the weenie stock thing could barely turn that motor over at all, but the CVR spins it like it's not even there... amazing difference. I was not prepared for the degree of improvement it made.

I have the hooker super comp shorties, and the big stock replacment starter. I installed a starter wrap, and then put a peice of wire around it because I didn't like the way the velcro looked. I wanted to make sure it stayed on. I have had no problems with it.

No, I never had any particular problems with heat, except that when the motor was warmed up it would try to fire on the first cylinder as the starter tried to turn it over, at which point the cylinder pressure would almost turn the motor backwards.... but with this starter, it doesn't matter whether it's hot or cold, it turns the motor fast.
