The easiest way is to pay the $5 for a new screen. Part # 55-S
While you're at it, get a Mr Gasket pressure regulator spring for it, part # 26; that will take the pressure to 30-35 idling and 55-60 cruising. And, get an intermediate drive shaft for it that has a steel collar instead of that stupid plastic BS; part # IS-55-E.

I would recommend taking it back and getting a regular one. Just a plain, common, $12 M55. A high volume one won't do you any good, maybe even more harm than good. With the difference in price you can easily afford the other parts. And, you'll have a nice clean screen.
I never re-use the screen. I've re-used pumps and put new screens on them; I put the pump body in a vise and use a blunt chisel to knock them off.

I put the screen/pickup in the freezer for a few hours, then remove the pump's lower cover and bake it in the oven at 350degF for 15 minutes. The screen/pickup with then slide right into the pump's lower cover with minimal effort.
You'll need to reassemble the pump and set the pickup position to put it 3/8" off the oil pan's floor.
When it's set right, take it to a shop and have then spot-weld the pickup to the pump housing...after removing the lower cover (again) and removing the pressure relief spring and piston.
Yes, it's a lot of work, but absolutely worth it. The pickup won't come off, and it will be in the right position.
