Changing Oil Pan Gasket

I hear of people needing to remove the pan to put the new one in, but counldnt you lower the pan an inch, rip out th eold rubber one and put in the new rubber one? I'm thinking it wouldnt take more then 2 hours. Am I missing something?

Only problem I see, is if the bolts go thru the gasket, then you would have to take it all the way off. But, I've never changed that gasket before, so I may be wrong.
