motor oil

I have an 86 T/A pretty much all stock. Its got 94,000 miles on it and was thinking about switching over to something like valvolines max life. Was just wondering what anyones thoughts might be on oil thats for higher milage cars. Whats the difference between something like that and regular synthetic?

I'd just use regular synthetic. I never understood that "formulated for higher milage engines".

I use Mobil 1.

AFAIK, ,Valvoline Max Life is NOT synthetic. "Regular" synthetic should be more than satisfactory for your purposes. Once you resolve any leakage issues that may be revealed (NOT caused) by the synthetic, you should have no problems, longer engine life, more power, less heat, and better performance. Other than that, there are no good reasons I can think of to change to synthetic.

I use Mobil 1 in everything I have, including the lawnmower, and have no complaints. I'll spare you the chapter of details for now, but I've proven that it's far superior to ANY mineral oil in my engines, transmissions, etc.
