throwing belts

My car is an 82 z28. The motor is not the 82 but a 68 350, but I do not know what it is out of. Here is the problem. It will not quit throwing the water pump, alternator pulley. I s there a serpentine belt system I can buy for my car, and It does it usually when you floor it. thanks.

That is usually a lineup issue...

Which belt system is it? (left-hand alt, right-hand alt)

Mine was doing the same thing this weekend. I had just switched the belt. I tightened the alt. adjustment bolt up too much and it started to pull the threads out. SO it felt tight to me when I put it on, but when I gunned it it would have enough torq to loosen it up then throw the belt. I took the same size bolt, only just got a longer one and put it all the way throught the casing and put a nut on the other end. I havn't thrown a belt since then, so that was my problem. Make sure you didn't tighten that bolt up to tight and pull the threads out.

the alternator is on the passenger side. Would a serpentine conversion be worth it, and how can I fix the alignment problem. The belt isnt loosening it is twisying, so it must be an alignment issue.

SHoudn't you be able to look at it and see it is out of line.

it is not that out of line. It only does it when the car is floored usually, and it must be only slightly off.I will just have estimate how far it is off. would a serpentine conversion fix this though
? thanks

Had the same problem!!!

I bought a set of March Performance serpentine pulleys for 200 umpteen dollars.
The alignment is perfect! & the pulleys are 6 ribs.

Summit Racing Price:
MCH-6380 High water flow/Long water pump $191.95
MCH-624 Matching Power Steering Pulley $72.39

I don't know, but it sounds like it would be harder than just fixing your alignment problem. Sounds like you have a bracket problem if it only does it when you floor it.

it possibly could be a bracket problem because our stock alternator bracket will work with my intake so does anyone make one for my intake?

ronterry did you get the brackets with those too, because I like the alternator bracket.

I had it before I bought the pulleys, but March does sales a full kit with all the pulleys, alt braket, & power steering bracket. I think it was $499 or something though

The braket is a March Performach alternator braket, and I think it set me back like $60 bucks.

March stuff is pricey, but most people here will agree that it's quality stuff.

BTW: before I did anything to my old pulleys, I used water pump pulleys shims, and washers to get my old pulleys to line up. It wasn't till I starter pushing >6000rpms that my damn alt belt would wrap up on my water pump, and I was at risk of destoying a very expensive race motor, and aluminum water pump. That's when I put up the money for new pulleys!!!
