What does resurfacing heads mean?

Like the topic says, also, is it recommended on used heads. I can get it done for $20.

Resurfacing is grinding a few tens off the bottom of the head to make it flat again.

When you resurface you change the head to intake angle and increase the engines compression (depends on how much you shave).

It should always be done to used heads of unknown origin, or ones where a head gasket has blown, or when there's visible damage. It's a generally good idea to shave a couple of thousandths off of any heads just to be sire they're true.

Thanks, would I need the intake resurfaced then to match up?

good idea... they can also shave the intake to get the angle right again (after the heads/block are done)

You could, but unless there is a bunch taken off the heads, its not necessary.

it's done on a big belt sander, more or less. if i remember right my shop can only remove .010 at most so if the warp is more than that it would need milled. usually it's only a few .001s that's removed. if i have block at the shop i have it resurfaced and the heads but i never take heads to the shop, unless they need surfaced.
