Do you think this cam is too much for a 305

Whats your duration at .050? Your lift seems ok to use on that motor, but I see a problem with your parts matching elsewhere. You arent supposed to use a double pumper with a 'matic. So either get like a 3000 rpm convertor or get a vac secondary carb. If I were you using the parts you already have, I'd opt for the convertor, since your cam will also work better with a higher stall speed.

a dual plane intake manifold like a stealth might do you better too. Didn't catch that the first time I read it. a 222/222 @ .050 isnt too much for a 305, but you have way too much induction going into it and not enough stall speed going out of it. just my opinion though, never actually tried a setup qiute like that.

my comment about the stall speed is in referance to your torque converter. That cam will take away some of your bottom end power, so you'd need a converter that will spool up a bit so the engine will basically spin up to an rpm where it makes power. The same goes for your 650 double pumper holley. Aside from the fact that it is bigger than you need, it is a double pumper. That hurts your bottom end, because it activates the secondaries whenever you hit the gas, no matter what the engine speed. They are ment for manual trans cars. You should get a 600 vaccum secondaries carb, they work great on 300hp 350's. I have one with electric choke that I just rebuilt if you are interested- email me. Your intake is the other problem I see with your induction. It again, takes away from your bottom end. With that cam you will never rev the motor to 8000rpm so sell off the carb and intake and get yourself a nice dual plane intake for $109. I dont have the chart here with me, but I'm thinking your carburator and intake would only be necessary on a 305 running at like 9000rpm, which is not your goal. I'm not saying the car wouldn't run with what you have listed, but I think it was faster stock.

What car is it, assuming it's the original motor? Also, do we think it has a 2.73 non-posi? I would advise you to keep your cam for now and maybe get some 1.6 rockers. You need a torque converter before doing anything else. Then you seriously have to think about how you want it to perform- if you want it to fall flat on it's face under 2,500rpm then keep your intake and carb, and get a cam to match them. But a 305 has PLENTY of torque capability, so you'd be better off getting a converter, mild cam, dual plane intake, and vac. secondary carb.
