hey, i'm about to hook up my new ignition system

i pulled the old distributor/ plugs/ wires a while ago

my timing mark (on the balancer) is just right of the timing indicator tab behind the water pump

my guess is that i am on cylinder #8 right now.............if so where should i set my distributor at, etc.

also whats the stock base timing for an LG4? 8* BTDC?


the engine is a 1987 LG4 305 BTW

 

You're either between #1 and #8, or between #6 and #5... not enough info to know which one

 

ok, true, because for every 2 revolutions of the balancer, the distributor rotates once

so i guess i gotta crank the engine over while holding my finger over a spark plug hole, huh
