383 clearance problems w/ oil pan

I've got a 383 with a 6" rod, Eagle H-beams, a Scat 9000 crank, and I'm having a problem with the rotating assembly contacting the stock oil pan. Is this a common problem? Is the usual fix to simply clearance the baffles out of the pan?

yes it is a common problem. the front rod usually hits up in the front of the pan. sometimes you can just "dimple" the pan from the inside out to fix it. i bought a new moroso oil pan when i built mine. it was only $119 and clears up to 3.85 stroke with steel rods.

I had the same problem with mine. I just had to do some creative engineering with the hammer. Dimpled the side and had to slightly shave the inside of the pan rail. I've almost got 3,000 miles on the new engine now.....can't wait to take it to the track in a few weeks.

Dammit.... I just had the exact same problem when I fired my 383 for the first time... I build mine with LT1 rods and it hits the stock oil pan in the front. It's not that big of a deal... but what really pisses me off is that I searched about 10 times on here for that specific issue... and post after post after post morons are saying you can use the stock oil pan with no problems!

From now on... if you don't know WTF you are talking about.. don't answer the questihbons!

Every setup is different, some will make it some won't. It's just the luck of the draw i guess.
