My car doesn't like my new coil??!!
I just got a new coil for my car, upgrading from the stock one just b/c its original. I replaced it with a coil from PerformanceDistributors.com. Now the car stumbles and misfires at anything over 2k RPM's. WTF?! I played with the timing a little bit, but no help. I advanced it until i heard a little knock, but it did the same thing. So i retarded it some, but of course, that made it worse. Now i'm back where I started, I put the original one back in. What gives?

That sort of coil can be real hard on modules...
Get a high-perf module, either from Kelly's heirs or from Accel or MSD.
That's a good coil. I run one too. One of the speed shops in Memphis where I used to live (and where Kelly started Perf Dist, after he worked at Union Auto) carried both MSD and Performance Dist, put a car with the full MSD setup on their dyno, then put a Perf Dist DUI on it; they got about 8 more HP. I don't know why, I wasn't there while they were doing it, but it's something to think about. I knew him, he definitely understood how to make a distributor work.

Perf Dist is a good one; I used to be able to just drive over there at lunch and see Kelly, and buy one while I was there, so it was wasy for me. But like I daid, Accel I know also has aone that will survive, and I think MSD does too. Crane might also.
I murdered a stock module once with one of those coils. I've never had the exact thing you describe happen to me, but I can see how it could. The extra energy they put out isn't free: it has to go in before it comes out. The module has to carry a whole lot more current.
