Loud howl from behind/near carb!!! Help!

I just fired up the engine I swaped in my 87 T/A. The first time I shut it off becouse I forgot tranny fluid (ran twice for about 10-20 sec). Before I shut it off the second time I heard a loud howl from near the carb/distributer. All vacuum lines are connected,. the oil is full and so is the tranny fluid. I feared it was the torque converter but it is not audible under the car and it is spinning freely. Also I can not put it in drive becouse I still am fabricating a shifter cable bracket.

If anyone has any idea please let me know, the noise is easily heard over the open headers and sounds like a rat is stuck back there.

Thank you in advance,
Matt

I figured a vacuum leak too, but I had never had one this loud. The power brake fiting is a little loose on the carb. I will go out and try it out. and update this post when I do.

Thanks a lot,
Matt

Well, the sound has quieted toa whistle but I found out that I overtightened the carb stud nuts and now one of the cornors of the Edelbrock is cracked away from the body of the carb competly. Do you think this would be causing the sound? It is sealed with gasket sealer but I can't imagine that it is air tight or will be for long. Is there anyway to fix it or do I should I just save up for that Road Deamon I've been looking at?
