*sigh* Electronic VSS, NEED HELP
Ok, I'm having bigtime problems with this. I'm putting an '89 T5 into my '90 RS and I can't find the right electronic VSS. I keep ordering VSS's from my work and they keep sending me ones that are gear driven and are WAY TOO BIG. Like 2" in diameter at least.
Has ANYONE actually looked at an electronic VSS from a 5-speed trans ????
1) Is it gear driven or does it use a reluctor and magnetic pick-up????
2) Is it the same size as the cable-driven VSS from the T5's????
Roughly 1" in diameter????

There are a couple of kinds...
The one I had, looked EXACTLY like cable-drive speedo gear housing, except that it had an electric connector instead of teh cable thing. The gear looked EXACTLY like a cable-drive gear, except that it had no shaft; just a hole where it went over the end of a little shaft that stuck out the bottom of the VSS.
There's another kind that's larger, but it goes into the same hole. As I understand it, the TBI and TPI ECMs expect a different number of pulses per mile, and the 2 types are set up accordingly. The one I had came from a TPI car.
Here's the large kind... I don't know what kind of car that trans came out of.
