car keeps running after I turn the ignition off

Its a 305 engine with a carb. When I turn the car off it still wants to run, It will spit and sputter then you have to start it up and keep doing that till it finally shuts off. Any ideas on what would cause this.

A vacuum leak, and/or the idle speed set too high.

on and on and on...lol

Hey bro how many miles do you have on the ride?...if its out of tune..or just slap wornout that might be the problem..it's called "dieseling"..when the ignition is shutoff the car runs like crap for a bit then finally dies...start with a good tuneup..wires,plugs cap rotor all filters then see what happens..after that you can check timing...use my moto..KISS.."keep it simple stupid"..lol..trust me i have shot myself in the foot many times when the problem was something so simple. so start off with a good tune up and go from there....
