Water pump & Valve covers ???

I was just wondering if anyone new what the specs where for a formulas water pump. I have a 1989 Formula with the 305HOTPI engine. With a built 4speed auto trans. I also have the dual cooling fans if that helps at all. I was thinking about getting an edelbrock for it. Im also looking at getting some nice looking valve covers. I know that edelbrock makes the elite series that will fit my car fine....but was however wondering if anyone knew any others companies that had them also. Thanks guys.

There should be plenty of companies that make a water pump for your car, look in the Summit catalogs, I think you can find cheaper than Edel.

I forget if we have a long or short style though.

I don't know of any particular specs, it's just a water pump for a small block Chevy, long style, reverse rotation (for serpentine belt as opposed to V-belt). For a far better quality part than any other I know of, including Edelbrock, see www.stewartcomponents.com

There are many companies that offer valve covers that will fit small block Chevy motors with the center bolt hold-down you have. GM themselves does, and would be a better choice for fit and function than the Edelbrocks.

Incidentally, you appear to have the lowest output 305 TPI available in your year. The other 305 TPI with higher power output (better cam) came with 5-speeds; and there is yet another option, RPO code G92 which included dual catalytic converters, that raised the power some more. The actual "HO" designated motor is a carbed 305, available from 83 to 86. So your "305 HO TPI" reference is inappropriate.

I don't think that the Edelbrock valve covers will fit. I tried a set on my 89 Formy engine and they were too tall and hit the a/c pump (the a/c pump sits slightly above the valve cover). Make sure that you check the clearance of your accessories (alt, a/c) before you put them on. It's a **** job to do to find out they have to come off.

Man i must say thats a real crusher to hear i dont have the HO. A few people told me on a couple other sites that i did.....and i was sure that when i decoded the vin # i had the right one......must have been wrong though. Thanks for the right info. As for the valve covers....i looked at the edel ones......and they claim that there the same stock size as the factory ones(height). Are they telling the truth or am i going to have a tough time putting them on and have them hit the ac pump???

I know how you feel, when I first got my car, the guy told me it was an HO, come to find out only 75 produced that year.

The height isn't so much an issue, it's the fit & finish... those little Allen screw plastic trim gewgaws will start falling off and they'll look like hammered elephant plop without 2 or 3 of them, and it's hard as hell to keep them from spewing oil all over themselves out the breather holes... other that stuff like that they fit fine.
