I work there and I could get a l98 long block for 900$....thats the best deal ive found so far. I want to get some input on these motors...i know a couple people who have them and they run good no problems after 3-4 years. What you think?
BTW getting the motor that cheap would allow me to get a new cam, intake, and swap carb and all that good stuff.

Does it come with any warranties?
seems like a decent deal. A long block comes with the cam, unless you mean that you want a bigger one.

TBI, whats the going rate for normal customers there? I found a L98 long block with a 7 year/70,000 mile warrenty for 1,100 or so. Not including shipping/core charge. All done it comes out to about 1500 until I return the core. Once I do that its about 1300.
I'm gonna watch this post, since I need a new engine I want to get the best deal possible, but I don't want to sacrifice quality for it.

More than likely that motor is coming from RECON. I've had hit or miss luck with them...bought the same as any other rebuilts..
I'd say go for it, but DEFINITELY check the torque specs and bearing clearances to see if the thing is going to live ........

I think its like a 18month warrenty...hell Ill blow it up the day before the warrenty is up if i have to. The motor goes for about 1200$ with core...I get a discount and with a core exchange it came out to 900$ that would leave me with money for a new cam, intake, carb and all that good stuff so i wouldnt have to run TBI anymore.
It comes with the cam/timing chain...basically you just need a intake, induction, and distributer.
Im pretty sure there is no shipping charge either since it just comes with the truck on wednesdays.

make sure it's a complete rebuild, not a "rebuild what needs to be rebuilt". Auto zone sells those motors. They check all the parts that wear out, and if they find a cylinder that needs to be bored, they bore it and stick in a new piston. If the next piston checks out to be within service limit, they leave it in there. There are horror stories about those motors, they are more or less a motor you put in your car when you need to sell the car as a running car. Kinda like a maaco paint job. Summit sells recon engines, if thats the company Advance is selling then they might be decent. But make sure you find out what was actually replaced in the motor you get.

You can go through hawks and get a complete tpi motor for about 700. They come with everything you need to run it. Computer and all. But I am not sure about the quality of the motor, ie how long it will last. I am sure hawks would not sell any thing that would blow up at start up, but with motors you never know.
supposedly all the cyclinders are honed, new valvetrain including all seals, new oil pump, new timing chain, new cam (unless its a hydraulic that can be "remanufactured", they supposedly have alot of new stuff on them but im not sure. I will look into it more in depth and see. If they arent very good ill just look into the lo5 again.

I'm not sure about this place, but seeings as I won't be ordering a new motor for the next few months it doesn't matter. But I found this site, Rebuild Auto Engines, This is the specific TPI roller block engine
They've got the 350 TPI roller long block. Supposedly everything is either new or remanufactured. I'm not sure of the quality, but their customer feedback is pretty good. Consumer reports doesn't report anything bad about them.

I'am very happy with my long block [5.0 ] from jasper .Warrty is 3 years or 75,000 miles.www.jasperengines.com,More $$$ but i think it's worth it.Short blocks not good of warrty. They even have performance engines & trans and was a supplier of Winston Cup Racing. I know so much i should work for them. When i needed a motor i checked out many . To many guys told me Recon was no good .
jasper wants 1900$ for a l98 longblock...screw that. Id rather put the money up for a 330hp vortec motor which I might do since i just bought the carb and I have my TBI intake sold.
