Built 350's-Will they take the rice rockets?

So can a fully built 350 (charged or not) take these damn rice rockets that flood my hood? Frankly, they sound so damn horrible but I know some are damned fast. But its all about american HP. So, can a built up 350 put these rice rockets to rest?

All would depend on how 'built' they are in general. But if your area is like mine, a built 350 with a 150 shot will walk them all (if you can get traction of course).

it more so depends on how built the ricers are. cause in most cases a worn out, rough, stock, 350 will eat them, unless were talking more than civics and cavaliers, like supras and ****, cause then you'll need a strong running well built 350 to hang with one.

And like someone said, it also depends on how built the 350 is. I know someone who told me he had a built 350 and all it had was a K&N and exhaust and a few things ported

You shouldnt have any problems at all with most ricers. I beat a riced out sonoma 4 banger in my moms 94 Dodge Ram pickup 3.9L V6 and that thing is a freaking DOG!

I hear ya, my 3.8 Impala romps on them also

I don't need to tell you the embarrassment factor that my Vette unleashes on those bangers & Mustangs for that mater!!!

Most of that will depend upon your deefinitions of "*****" and "built". To me, a "*****" is an eastern import with lots of decals, wings, incorrect wheels/tires, and a fart can. The best offering to come from the Pacific rim is a mere 5-ish liter V-8 that can maybe be pushed to 800HP reliably. The best offering from the line of SBCs is probably the 358, which can operate reliably at 1,400 HP with the right induction. In a relatively equal body, anyone but a complete novice driver should be able to use the extra 500-600HP to his/her advantage.

The problem is, most of us try to rely solely on the extra displacement rather than to build it into something more advantageous, whereas many "ricers" come out of the box with about all you're going to get from them, making them serious contenders in stock trim.

I'm still struggling to see the technical aspects of this post, BTW.

i dunno about you guys...but in my town "rice rockets" reffers to the bike crowd. that takes a little bit more motor than most can afford to take those guys out.

Theirs a diff b/w rice and import.

Rice, tries to look fast and isn't.
Some imports though can be quite fast, if done properly.

Exactly. Honda's take a lot of money to make faster than us.
Be wary of practically anything with a turbo. I've had 2 turbo talons (cheap as **** to make faster than us) and a buddy of mine has a 90 Talon TSi AWD. He's running 13.7's after 1.5K in parts. If he spends another 1500 he should be down into the low 13's high 12's. That's coming down from stock 16's.

All you can do is remember that there's always somebody out there that's faster than you.

i agree that some imports are fast. i went to the vette vs viper shootout at the track this weekend and a civic pulled up to the line... everyone in the stands busted out laughing.. he does a burnout and i hear a turbo, so i figure it is a mid to high 12 second car.. yea it deffinatly ran a 10.8. everyone in the stands stared in awe(they were all viper/ vette fans and the only car faster than this was an older stingray that ran a 10.1)

Yea, here rice rockets are bikes. You'd have a hard time keeping up with one, although its possible.

As for the import crowd, depends on what it is. With a little work, you could set up a car that would kill most of them.

Fast, to what point? A typical import, "excluding exotic" can go one or two ways. One, they can either be quick out of the hole and die over 50. Two, they can have no ballz out of the hole and some mean upper RPM potential. A built 350 should be able to take any low end import with little effort. I gotta find that pic of the Civic CRX with a BBC and a blower.

my old girlfriend had a civic that just flat dominates
but.... she spent over 12k on it and she hasent got it finished
I raced her in my '79 a while ago. she walked by me like I was standing still.
remember these things have a variable valve ratios as well as timeing controls so they stay in the power band longer than you do. Oh and they have a thrust to weight ratio to kill for
