Do our V8s sit off-center in engine bay?

I swapped my 305 for a new 350 and since then I've noticed that the engine seems to sit off-center to the passenger side about an inch or so. The intake air duct sits at a slight angle from the TB to the air intake. I've seen several pictures of other f-body V8s and they all seem to sit this way....am I smokin' too much?

No it should not be off center, Its possible your motor mount is more worn on one side than the other.

My friends IROC does this. Made putting headers on a Bitch.

I think so. Mine never sat off-center, but it never did sit quite straight. You could only notice after I put my strut tower brace on, and then you could tell the intake wasn't level, it was kinda tilted to the passenger side. New motor mounts fixed that problem.

Yes they do sit off center towards the passenger side. I know this because my car has been converted to RHD. And its a real pain finding headers for it!

Well, here in Australia we drive on the left hand side of the road.. So our cars are all right hand drive. I could of left it LHD, but I would have to get the car inspected yearly (usually wouldnt have to).

The one reason I would hate to have a RHD thirdgen is that cat-converter buldge in the footwell!!! Would you mind posting pictures of your interior and engine bay? I'm really curious as to what was changed.

That just looks odd. I see that the center console is the same and so are the gauge cluster.

Yep the dash is mirrored using a mould. So its exactly like a LHD car just mirrored back to front. The console remains the same tho, and gauge cluster is unchanged.

Forget the whole RHS LHS driver bit and stick my tall *** in the back seat! Either that or plunk me right on the tranny tunnel .
Thanks again for the pictures.

O.K., mate. But what did you do about the friggin' brakes? I don't see a power booster, nor master cylinder ¿?.

Considering that the car was prepped from the factory as a LHD, then field-converted to RHD, I would be inclined to want to inspect the converted car annually for safety, not the factory-built one. Pardon my ignorance about your wonderful continent (and from the outside, it does appear to be a marvelous place indeed), but since everything there is upside-down, does that mean your Transportation Ministry has their collective heads up their collective ***** or down their collective throats? Just curious.... Here in the states, we're all well aware of the typical position of our Departments of Transportation, and their resultant points of view.

Hey Vader

The brakes booster/master cylinder is still in its factory location. The pedals have an extension that goes over to the left and side and operates the brakes from the factory location. (See bad pic below).

Regarding the Ministry of Transport. I am quite positive that they are completely backward and walk around with their head in between their cheeks. I too agree that the converted cars should be inspected, as there are a lot of backyard steering conversions done. But what can be done? We have to put up with whatever laws they decide and pay whatever price they come up with.

You can JUST see the bar that goes across the firewall, which operates the brakes/clutch etc...

Maybe I would be able to shift with my left hand IF the shift pattern was from right to left instead of left to right. I doubt they make special shifters like that, correct? I guess it would be virtually impossible, so disregard that question.

The clutch is still on the left side as well as the turn signal lever and what not, right? Perhaps I could get used to it, but I think the hardest part would be the shift pattern. I know it doesn't sound right, but it would have to be backwards for our mind to be able to adjust quickly. Kind of like a right hander can write his name with his left hand in almost a perfect mirror image of his right hand, as long as he writes with both hands at the same time.

Anyway... it's cool to see, just different. One cool thing... I bet that since you have long right turns instead of our long left turns, you can burn that RR tire for a very long time
