No spark, suggestions?

Driving happily down the road this afternoon my car just died (TBI 305). No warning, no stumble, I just suddenly had 0 RPM. I pulled over and cranked it and it cranked fine and there was definite fuel, but no start.

So, I had it towed home and I checked for spark from the coil, and there was nothing. I checked for codes and there were none. So I ran down to the parts store and bought a coil since they're cheap and I thought it might work. I installed it and it still won't start. I checked the four wires going into the coil with a test light (I don't have an ohm meter) and all four are showing power.

Since there are no codes and it's not the coil I really don't know where to go next without a multimeter or other diagnostic tools. Do any of you have any suggestions?

Does the tach show anything while you're trying to start it? If not, it's probably either the module (more likely) or the pickup coil (less likely, but not at all out unusual). Alot of the parts stores can test the module. If it tests good, it's probably the pickup coil.

Yeah like RB said its most likely the ignition module. I've had em go out exactly like that also. Going down the road....alls fine and dandy.....then cut off......lights out.

Great job, fellas, that was it. I just put a new ignition module on and it's running like a scalded dog.

I went to three places (Advance, Pep Boys & NAPA) and none of them could test the old one. Plus NAPA wanted $69 for a new one and Advance only wanted $30 (with a limited lifetime warranty).

Thanks for the replies, I really appreciate it.
