setting valves

2 weeks ago i busted a rocker arm. So we replaced it and set the valve's... We hand cranked it over and checked the valves and they were lose again.. So we thought it was the nuts..bought some new nuts and the same thing happens. Also we had the engine running with the valve covers off and we are noticing no oil spurting up.. whats up.. need some advice men...

Not sure why your not getting oil to the top but how exactly are you setting the lash?? If its a standard Hyd. flat tappet then you need to bump the engine over and watch as each valve closes (ones open, the other is closed), then tighten until pushrod barrely spins. Give another 1/2 turn. Bump engine over again until the other valve closes (on same cylinder). Repeat. Then repeat with all. After this I like to start the motor and go back and check everything (losen and retighten). Also.....have you checked the studs??

When I installed new pushrods I guess the oil didn't circulate up fast enough, as oil didn't come out right away. Actually, while adjusting one side of the engine, no oil came out of them.

not having oil shoot out the push rod and on the inner fender isn't a bad thing and if you don't see it doesn't mean there is no oil. if after running the valves you find them loose it may be the lifers bleed off.
