454 horsepower question

I have recently aquired a 66 chevelle malibu that the previous owner has installed a 454 into. I was wondering if anyone could give me a rough estimate on how much horsepower it is putting out. It has a 14" element Holley 4bbl on an Edelbrock intake manifold and a crane cam and Moroso 8mm wires. New valve covers, may have head work, but i'm not sure. Any estimates or ball park figures would be appreciated greatly. Thanks. I know this an f body sight but I can't find any chevelle sights that are worth while. If you could direct me to one that would be great.

Factory ratings varried from low 200's to high 300's. As mentioned above, it all depends on what combination of parts are in the engine and what kind of head work has been done.

Even though it may be a lower HP engine that's comparable with a SBC, the torque it produces at low rpms will always be greater than that similar SBC. Torque is what you feel in your butt when you push the throttle to the floor.

The 454 came in a variety of horsepower configurations. In 1970 there was a Chevelle 454 (I think the engine was called the LS7) that was rated at 450 horsepower. Without any additional info, there's no way to answer your question, but there is plenty of potential in that engine.
