which intake
i have an 84 z28 with a 283 with 041 heads, 427 454 lift cam, flat top pistons, and soon to be headers. right now i have a stock intake and q-jet carb off an 87 305. for xmas i'm going to get a new intake and carb. i'm planning on getting a edelbrock 600cfm performer carb, and an intake. i don't know which intake to get. what would be the best intake for under $150? would a torker be any good, because the engine has a 3" stoke and likes to rev high. how much hp do you think this engine will make when i get a new intake and carb and get the headers put on? do you think it will be able to keep up with a 4th gen lt1 camaro? thx
Your main concern is will you have hoodd clearance. With an engine that small and hood clearance issues, you may have to use a performer or maybe the Weiand 8004[it out performs the low rise performer] and you can still use your Q-jet which is hard to beat [for a street carb] when setup properly.

The performer rpm (or air gap) is one of the best out there, outflowing most of the competition. My rpm and carb (edel 600) both fit under the hood. If clearance is an issue then get a drop base air cleaner.

Don't go any bigger than a stock or Performer. Performer RPM is way too big for a 283, believe me, I'm running a Performer on a 292 and it revs over 7000.
The "idle to 5500 RPM" that Edelbrock quotes is for a 350 ci, it works much higher than that on a smaller engine.
Edelbrock doesn't recommend the Perf RPM for anything smaller than 300 cubes.
