Code 43

I keep getting a code 43. My car is having slight idle problems. It likes to cut itself off when moving from park to drive or reverse. I cleaned out the IAC.

It idles at 600 in gear, about 800 out of gear. It likes to fluctuate + or- 50-75 rpm. Sometimes it will dip real low, shake, and come back up.

Any Ideas?

Check your TPS to make sure it's adjusted right. Knock sensor signal is also covered by code 43.

Does the idle stop hunting if you bypass the ESC?

If you mean unplugging it on the passenger side of the motor, then yes, it stops. Thats when the car is running on mechanical timing right? I have it set at 10*.

Then you likely have an issue with the ESC system, Check the connections, especially at the distributor and detonation (knock) sensor. The sensor itself may be failing or detecting random noise events. You may also have connections issues at the HEI module, so you might want to check there as well, but that is a little less common.

Where does it connect at the distributor?

I will probably just replace the knock sensor. Its 10 years old anyways.
