theres a rod in there when u took the old pump out that rod slide back down. i thought i had a problem with not gettin the new pump in and then noticed this rod that i got to slide up and down, u want to slide that rod up and then put the pump back in. that rod is what pushes that handel thingy on the fuel pump.

hey i see we have basically the same mods to our motors......i dont have the intake you do..i have a stock one....thanks for the tips on the pump.....
Man that sounds much easier than replacing the intake pump. I replaced that last winter when it was snowing out
i wanted to run a machanical pump on this motor since i went carb but no provision for it

I've changed mine so many times i could do it blindfolded now. The first change took me 2-3 hours fumbling around.
Tip: take a slender magnet with left hand and attach to the rod, slid it up. With right hand place the lever from the fuel pump underneath and line up. (needlenose pliers will work too, but get in the way more). Start your two bolts and finger tighten - this will allow you to better line the fuel line up, which is also a bear. Then tighten eveything up!
(assuming right handed)
I hate working in the cold as well. Don't have as much of a problem here in Georgia

I had the motor rebuilt when I lived in Florida....which is where that pic was taken(the skulls are no longer on the car either) the motor came out of a 1986 van.... had 345000 miles on it.....so i had a guy i know who owns a machine shop(hes the local guy that everyone reccomends) work the motor and another friend of mine owns a shop so it worked out nicely......

cost of motor 100 bucks
motor work 600 bucks(knew the guy remember) (1100 retail)
intall 200 bucks(500 retail)
