10 mpg ?! What can i do for more gas milage (Updated)
I recently calculated my gas milage on my 1991 camaro z-28, it gets 10 miles to the gallon. I am still going to school and i dont have the money to keep up a 25 dollar tank of gas twice a month. What can i do or buy for my car to increas my gas milage and some more power would be nice? Thanks for any help.
Ps- are we supposed to get our messages off the message board after a wile or can we just leave them?
For all of you that want to know what exact set up i have i am not totaly sure i do know that i have a 1991 camaro z-28 with the automatic transmition and a filly stock 350 TPI engine. Also someone wanted to know the tire size, what it says on my tire is,
Eagle GT II P245/50R16 (96 T)
any thing else i should post and tell me i will find it out for you i really wont to fix this problem!
I am new to this so geve me a brake for all i now all parts are stock or at least replacements of stock parts. Thanks Again!

THe first things we have to know about here is:
A: Displacement
B: Tranny
C: Rear Gear Ratio (tire size is also helpful)
D: method of fuel metering and induction (aka. TBI, TPI, CARB)
E: Power adders or other mods?
F: Do you have a lead foot?
...Or perhaps a pet elephant that you squeeze in there too like 50 midget clowns in a WV Beetle?

Leave them.
If you're only getting 10mpg there is something wrong with your car, and you should find out what that is. Could be a bad coolant temp sensor, bad oxygen sensor, worn engine, or other things. It's likely a combination of many things. Checking for trouble codes could help pinpoint a problem, check the FAQ at the main site to learn how to do that.
If you don't have money for gas, I wouldn't even consider trying to get more power.

Duct tape an egg to the gas pedal.
If it breaks, get another and don't push so hard.
Garanteeed worth 5 mpg.

Hey, well as you can read in my sig, i've got a 350 crate with a 350 trans, and even when I had my 700 trans I still only got about 12 mpg or so. Now with the th350 i'm getting around 8-10.... the main thing I do to compensate for this factor being that I am a pizza delivery guy (don't fret, I make good money... remember to tip good guys) I generally unhook the mechanical secondaries at my carb... it helps a lot, I don't konw exactly how much it helps, but it does, and I actually don't loose that much power at WOT. Even with my old 305 and 700 my mileage was only around i believe 12-15 or so.. and I have two other friends with basically the same setup as myself except 3.73's and T5 and they get about 8-10 as well.

Not sure what your running for fuel induction, but if your efi the mileage is all in your chip.
Ie: My normal "tunned" chip gets 12 mpg
My "hiway chip" gets 22 mpg
Better milage from leaning out to 17 to 1 afr and advancing timing.

With what I've got (sig) and my 700R4 I get about 18 around town and last time I calculated my HW mileage (most at 70 mph and 2100 RPMs) it was 29.5 mpg. Pretty good considerding the new civic si only gets 24 town and 30 hw and has less than half the displacement! hehe POS cars
Makes you wonder how much wear and tear it puts on those little engines to turn 3500 RPMs at 70 mph
