my dad told me its probably the ignition module....its got the stock hei on the 305 carbed motor...

the car died while driving one day...just stopped running and never started since(this was about a month ago)

pretty simple, remove the cap remove the module and unplug the wires. only a few screws to take out. install i nreverse order, make sure you use the greese under the module. if you buy the replacemnt fist you'll know what you're look for. as for the no spark condition there are other parts that might also give you no spark, like bad wire(s), bad coil, or bad rotor to name a few.

Replacing the coil and module at the same time is a good idea, because either one going bad can take out the other.

Another good reason to replace them is that the factory coil and module were not very good parts.

My nephew's '86 LG4 had about 130k on it when it died on him in southern Colorado on a trip from Iowa to New Mexico. Had it towed to a dealer, they took all weekend but finally replaced the coil and module (and cap and rotor and plugs and plug wires). He said it suddenly ran awesome (he'd had the car for 2 years at that point) and got 27 mpg the rest of the trip.

Replace both the coil and module. The Accel pieces I put in seem to work very well.
